The Ramifications of Negligent Media on a Subordinated Population
The permeation of hegemonic ideals is not viable without its avenue of dissemination; the media. The mass media provides direct accessibility from the proprietor to the consumer, a morbid assurance that the sanctity of individual thought on a societal level may never be realized. As a result of media priming and framing, consumers conceive information as they are directed to interpret it. The media is instrumental to the reception of political ideals and establishing a consensus of public opinion. While the media has been saturated with disadvantageous depictions of African-Americans, the mainstream media is not the sole administrator of the prejudicial racial conceptualization. The Black media is especially detrimental to the images of its community because it overwhelmingly keeps its African-American audience uninformed. This lack of information leaves the audience unequipped to stifle dominant racial ideals.
