Supplemental
Issue Guidelines
For
Guest Editors and Sponsoring Organizations
Supplemental
publications are issues that are sponsored by someone other than the e-Press. This may be a government organization an
academic organization (e.g., the sponsors of any suitable academic conference),
or an institute dedicated to research and/or advocacy. The sponsor approaches
the NCHBC e-Press editorial staff to request space for a supplemental issue and
the editorial staff, under the aegis of the NCHBC e-Press Editorial Board,
decides whether or not to proceed based on (i) availability of slots, (ii)
suitability of theme, (iii) agreement about timing and costs. The sponsoring organization decides who the
Guest Editor or Editors will be.
The
Guest Editor(s) solicits papers from potential authors, informing them of the deadline
for submission to e-Press for possible inclusion in a special supplemental
issue-publication.
The
Guest Editor(s) prepares the Introduction that will run with the solicited
papers.
The Guest
Editor(s) and the editorial staff discuss with one another any particular
characteristics of individual papers that are important for the issue. For example, the Guest Editors might value
highly the empirical part of a given submission, rather than the theoretical
part. They inform the e-Press staff of
this so that the correspondence with authors emphasizes the importance of the same.
The
e-Press editorial staff or consulting editors conduct the blind peer review
process, copyedits and prepares any necessary comments on papers, and
corresponds with authors, seeking revisions where necessary by email.
The
authors submit their revised papers and the Guest Editor(s) submit a draft of
their Introduction by the deadline for revisions. (The e-Press has a rolling
deadline for all submissions as negotiated with the Editor-in Chief and the
Publisher)
The
e-Press editorial staff and/or consulting editors determines whether the
revisions are sufficient and, if so, prepares the submission for the publisher
(final copyediting, formatting, reference check, gathering copyright agreement
forms, etc.).
